Bernard Baruch was a very influential economic
leader during the 1920s and 1930s born in Camden, SC. He owned
a plantation just outside of Georgetown,
SC, from the early 1900s through the 1940s. A lot of important
persons visited his estate during that period, including Winston
Churchill.
After WWII, his daughter, Belle, bought him out and maintained
the plantation and surrounding properties until her death in
the 1960s. Now, the land and buildings are know as Hobcaw Barony
and are supervised by the Baruch Foundation. |
