Summer Reading 2023

Join KCL for this year’s Summer Reading theme: All Together Now! We’re working as a team to make the world, and our community, a better place. You can get started at your local branch of the Kershaw County Library! Summer Reading takes place from June 1 to July 31, 2023. Sign up for, as well as finish, the challenge between those dates for prizes!

This year, we’re working with something new (and fun)… Beanstack! Beanstack is a virtual way of keeping track of your reading while you’re on the go or at home. Use the Beanstack app or visit our page on the website to get started.

If you prefer to do things on paper, visit any branch of the Kershaw County Library to get signed up and started with Summer Reading. You can pick up your reading log (there’s one for kids, teens, and adults) and register at the front desk of any location.

Summer Reading Requirements
This year, we’re making things more fluid with minutes read versus book titles. Read whatever book you choose, however many times you choose, and work towards your minute goal.
For Kids (ages 0-4 and ages 5-12) and Teens (ages 13-17):
Read 600 minutes (10 hours) to complete the program. 600 minutes is as easy as 15 minutes a day, five days a week, for the full summer break!
For Adults (ages 18+):
Read 300 minutes (5 hours) to complete the program. It’s as easy as reading 15-20 minutes on the weekends during summer break.

Prizes
Prizes are obtainable at minute checkpoints OR when you’ve completed the challenge. It’s your choice as to what works best for you and/or your family.
For Kids and Teens:
Read 300 minutes and get a free book!
Read 420 minutes for a medal and completion certificate.
Read 600 minutes to be entered in the grand prize drawing of the Summer.
For Adults:
Read 300 minutes for a free book and entry into the grand prize drawing of the Summer.

Summer Exclusive Programs
We have many great programs to choose from this Summer that will have everyone working towards a better tomorrow. Find out what we have going on by taking a look at our programming calendar. You can view all programs or even narrow it down to what location and age range you want to see. Each location will have varying age group events going on, and they’re always free and open to the public.
