American Indians 101

Monday, November 29, 2021, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Everything you want to know about American Indians and Native Nations, but are afraid to ask, such as: what are “federally recognized” Native Nations; should you use “American Indian” or “Native American”; do American Indians pay taxes; what is Native American culture? This lecture is designed to give you the basics in discussing the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, understanding their issues today, and ways to be an ally. Presented by Dr. Courtney Lewis, an Associate (tenured) Professor at the University of South Carolina – Columbia. This position is joint between the Department of Anthropology (housed) and the Institute for Southern Studies.

This is an online Zoom class. To get the link to join, email debbieh@kershawcountylibrary.org.
