John Adams Hodge of Columbia will speak about the upcoming total solar eclipse that will be visible in the Midlands. His talk, “What You Need to Know about the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017,” will discuss when, where, and how to see the eclipse that will occur on August 21, 2107. He will describe features of both the Sun and the Moon that are visible during the eclipse, the physics of eclipses, and the scientific and historical significance of eclipses. Mr. Hodge is a NASA volunteer in the Solar System Ambassador Program. He is an experienced astronomical observer and a partner in the Bethune Observers Group. He is also an environmental and aviation lawyer, Professional Geologist, and pilot.
Attendees at this program will be able to receive a pair of eclipse glasses.
