At Kershaw County Council on Aging (KCCOA), we understand the value of our senior community. We are proud to aid our seasoned and mature friends in their everyday lives to give them the opportunity to thrive. From ensuring they receive needed services to providing fun and active programs, Kershaw County Council on Aging leads the way to help make each day meaningful.

Our facilities in Bethune, Camden, and Lugoff are the place to be for our top of the line programs for seniors. We provide daily exercise, activities, and lunch to keep our community's most valuable members engaged every day. Some of our programs include:

  • A Matter of Balance – workshop teaching fall prevention
  • Walk with Ease – walking & stretching for health promotion
  • Meals On Wheels – nutrition service to homebound seniors
  • Transportation – to & from centers (as available)

Our activities are fun and engaging ways to spend the day, too! Come by our facility in Camden for the following:

  • Card Games - Play classics with others who know them best
  • Bingo - The original five in a row game of the ages
  • Lunch - We provide healthy and balanced meals for everyone
  • Exercise - Every morning to help keep seniors active and strong
  • Word Search - Show off your smarts with this pen and paper classic

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program:

The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides low-income seniors with coupons that can be exchanged for eligible foods (fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh-cut herbs) at farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs. The application for this program must be filled out online. If you need assistance applying for this program, please call 803-432-8173.

A Matter of Balance

Before taking this program, many participants have a fear of falling and no sense of direction on where to start to prevent them. A Matter of Balance is PROVEN to help people manage their concerns about falls. The higher your age, the more susceptible you are to falling, but building strength, balance, and mental function can keep nasty slips from happening!

Throughout this program, you will:

  • Learn to view falls as something you can control
  • Learn to exercise to increase your balance and strength
  • Make changes at home to reduce your risk of falling
  • Set goals for increased physical activity

The class’s design introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination. Whether you have some reservations or are unsure of joining our next event, we guarantee you’ll leave feeling empowered and strong. Come on out. Meet new and old friends in recreational classes that help increase your physical activity. And, most importantly, reduce your fears and potential of falling.

Walk with Ease

Walk With Ease is a free six-week program sponsored by the Vitality Center to help promote well-being by staying active. This program meets three times a week to stretch and walk for those who may find it increasingly difficult each day.

Contact us today to register, it's never too late to get up and get going.

Meals on Wheels

Nobody goes further to help our seniors than the Meals On Wheels program at the Kershaw County Council on Aging (KCCOA).  Everyone deserves a nutritious meal and our Meals On Wheels program makes sure senior citizens of our community get just that daily.

We believe that our seniors should be allowed to live with dignity and independently without having to worry about how they’ll get their next meal. Since April 1975, our Meals On Wheels effort has touched the lives of thousands of seniors, providing them with the nutrition they need and human contact so important for every person - young or old.

Every day, KCCOA strives to feed every senior who needs our services.
